Architects: K2s Architects Ltd

An unusual office building with a facade made from perforated sheets

Arctia Shipping wanted their new head office to be in close proximity to their fleet of icebreaker ships. To achieve this, the architects took the unusual step of building a floating structure which would have its new home at Meriksarmi Pier in Helsinki.

Providing a contrast to the icebreaker ships, the floating office has an elegant black facade made from perforated aluminium sheets with a distinctive cross pattern, inspired by ice and sailors’ textiles
