Useful information on anodising

Anodising is a surface treatment of aluminium by which the aluminium surface is given new protective and decorative qualities.

  • For indoor use we generally recommend an anodising of 10 micrometres (10mµ) on one side.
  • For outdoor use we generally recommend an anodising of 20 micrometres (20mµ) on one side (one side visible).
  • Hardness at ordinary anodising: 200 – 250 Hv (Vickers).
Materials suitable for anodising:

  • Aluminium EN 5005 EQ (ALMG 1)
  • Aluminium EN 5754 EQ (ALMG 3) – becomes a little darker than EN 5005 EQ due to the content of magnesium. Please note that anodising of EN 5754 is suitable for technical purposes only because surface imperfections may occur.
  • Other types of aluminium (alloys) may be used, but the above mentioned types are the ones used most often.
Materials not suitable for anodising:
  • Aluminium EN1050 A (2S)

Deviations in colour and shade are possible from batch to batch of material. Therefore we offer to make samples of the relevant alloy before the order is started.
